Radiation Oncology at Arnot Health

Medical radiation is used to treat cancerous tumors. Ionized radiation damages the DNA of malignant cancer cells, lowering or eliminating their ability to reproduce. Tissues surrounding the tumor which are normal are largely spared by aiming the radiation beams to intersect at the tumor site. Radiation is sometimes used in conjunction with chemotherapy.
